Russian Dolls in Arbat Street in Moscow

Russian dolls are rightly considered one of the most recognisable symbols of Russia, and it comes as no surprise that even at the Moscow Design Week 2011 Jacopo Foggini dedicated his installation to the famous matrioshka. Naturally, if or when you visit Russia as a tourist, it is almost obligatory to bring a Russian doll back home. There are many places to buy these lovely souvenirs, one of them is the Old Arbat St in the centre of Moscow. Of course, matrioskas there may be costly, but if money is not a problem, head to one of the shops in this busy historic street. For a budget choice consider an open air stall in Vorobyovy Gory, or an online store.

And even if buying a Russian doll is not your mission, just gazing at a shopwindow, like this one, is a good way to spend time in Moscow. Oh yes, the replicas of the famous Faberge eggs are another popular souvenir article.
